Burning Questions on Documentation

Documentation is a necessary element of every project. Where would we be without our plans, schedules, and related thoughts—if they weren't captured in some organized manner? The following Burning Questions focus on documents created during and for the project itself. Some documents may end up as product descriptions based on requirements documents, while other documents contribute only during the project itself and have only historical (and sometimes hysterical) value once the project has been completed.

Burning Questions

  1. What is project documentation, and why do it?
  2. Can you over-document?
  3. Is there a minimum amount of documentation a project should have?
  4. What are the characteristics of good project documentation?

Problem Solvers

  1. The organization has rolled out a new template for requirements that we're supposed to use for all projects, but it doesn't all seem to apply to what I'm doing. What should I do?
